Today, Americans observe the day by visiting cemeteries and placing flags and flowers on the graves of their heroes and loved ones. It’s also a day to spend time with family and friends and cook out on the grill. In light of May being National BBQ Month and Memorial Weekend coming up, we wanted to share with you one of our employee’s favorite BBQ experiences.
On a business trip to St. Louis, MO, Spud employees had the opportunity to enjoy some great BBQ food for their first meeting. Lunch was brought in from Sugarfire Smokehouse, an award-winning Smokehouse known for their excellent food and signature house BBQ sauces.
Spud employee, Matthew Regan chose to go with a beef brisket sandwich. However, it wasn’t the sandwich, as much as it was the sauce that sparked Matthew’s taste buds.
"One of the BBQ sauces that they brought along was their version of a coffee BBQ sauce and I loved it on my beef brisket sandwich," said Regan.
He enjoyed it so much, that he found a similar recipe online that he prepared himself, which included ketchup, red wine vinegar and several other spices. Of course, the most important ingredient is a half cup of brewed coffee. Click here for the recipe.
"I am a coffee fan in general so I gravitated towards it immediately. The flavor was awesome; coffee is there for sure but it is balanced with sweetness, so it isn't just a coffee uppercut," Matthew said of Sugarfire’s coffee BBQ sauce. "I think the thing I liked most about it was it being unique and something I had not encountered before."
While you enjoy your day of relaxing and grilling out, take the time to reflect on the brave men and women who have given their lives so that we may enjoy the freedom that we have been given. Have a safe weekend!
