Koegel’s has been producing quality meat products since the early 1900’s, with over thirty-five different products available.
Prior to their newly designed system, their inventory control process was done manually, with inventory counts being documented on paper, and entered into outdated software. "We are all about simple and our software was anything but," said Jim Lay of Koegel Meats.
Koegel personnel were spending 3-4 hours each day tracking product that was being returned for various reasons. The process included removing the returned product from the truck, sorting the product and then manually entering the information into the computer. Not only was this a large time-commitment, there were human errors that resulted as well.
In order to improve their inventory system, Spud created software that would allow employees to scan the products, which are then imported into their existing system, eliminating the need to sort and manually enter the information. The new system runs directly on the bar code scanner which allows mobility and is not reliant on a wireless connection.
After successfully using the mobile application to track returns, new features were added to track the inventory on their delivery trucks, as well as their cold-storage warehouse. "Before this, we were never able to collect the information and easily verify the inventory that we had on trucks out for delivery," said Lay. "There were just too many numbers to be able to effectively track this info manually."
Now that Koegel’s has the ability to accurately track inventory in multiple locations, they have access to more reporting as well. The data obtained from these new reports will help them with their business decisions, thus increasing efficiency and saving more time and money.
It was a pleasure partnering with Koegel Meats and we look forward to future projects with their team.
